In the Heat of Battle

I have never been involved in a physical battle, but I have seen my share of spiritual battles over the years. The battle we find ourselves in now really began almost two years ago and though there have been times of rest and reprieve, the fight has been almost constant.

Jesus promised us tribulation, and Paul admonishes us to take up the “armor of God” to fight our spiritual battles. We are informed that our truest weapons are spiritual, not physical, but mighty for pulling down the enemy’s strongholds.

When we find ourselves in the heat of battle, however, it is easy to lose our focus. We become weary and weak. Our faith can falter and anxiety can take over. The words of the enemy or even well-intended “experts” can knock us down and further weaken us. Our spiritual weapons, though still accessible, may be forgotten or seem somehow inadequate.

I believe this is why the apostle Paul admonishes us in Ephesians 6 to put on the whole armor of God. He not only tells us what each piece means, but he instructs us to “wear” these spiritual weapons so that we will not falter in the battle.

Regardless of what we do, the battle belongs to the Lord. But our praise, our attitudes, our persistence to take up the shield of faith and sword of spirit will affect the thoughts we allow ourselves to have, the promises we continue to believe, and the fiery arrows of unbelief we continue to quench. And having done all of this, we will stand firm against all strategies of the enemy.

“Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle, you will still be standing firm.”(Ephesians 6:13 NLT)

We continue to need your prayers as we put on our armor, stand our ground, and wait upon the Lord to bring victory.
